Kenny Tawse
Sensei
Sensei Kenny Tawse’s karate career spans more than 50 years. Initially a member of Funakoshi-Ryu, he joined the South African Shotokan Karate Academy in the early 1990’s. During the next three decades he served as Eastern Cape style-head for SASKA. Sensei Kenny has taught and mentored generations of yudansha (black belts) and instructors, as well as a number of karateka who went on to achieve great success in the karate sports arena.
Sensei Kenny’s great karate passion is for the Shotokan-Ryu as developed by Kase Taiji Sensei. This unorthodox form of Shotokan-Ryu later came to be known as Kase-Ha. He regards himself as having been extremely privileged to train with Kase Sensei during his visit to South Africa in 1996. With his continuous research and attention to technical detail, it is appropriate that Sensei Kenny now serves as the Technical Director for United Shotokan-Ryu (USR). He is also a founder member of USR.
